Christian County AFJROTC Narrowly Defeats Captain Shreve AJROTC

Christian County AFJROTC edged out Captain Shreve AJROTC 1075 to 1057 last week in the National Air Rifle League Sporter Invitational Tournament. Christian County AFJROTC improved their overall record to 8 - 1. Christian County AFJROTC was led by Daniel Foti who shot a 285. The remaining contributing members were Megan Graff, Dakota Steward, David Johnson, and Nathaniel Stewart. Christian County AFJROTC is from Hopkinsville, KY, and is coached by Maj Robert Marlow.

Christian County AFJROTC will advance to the Invitational Tournament title game this week to take on Selma MCJROTC from Selma, CA. This will be the first meeting between these two teams.

Captain Shreve AJROTC finishes the season with a 8 - 1 record, including winning the Army JROTC Elite Division during the regular season. Captain Shreve AJROTC was led by Caroline Brakeville who shot a 276. The remaining contributing members were Kyla Thrash, Ash Mclain, Imani Tart, and Anieya Hilliard. Captain Shreve AJROTC is from Shreveport, LA, and is coached by Everett Craig.

The post-season Invitational Tournament is reserved for some of the top teams in the National Air Rifle Sporter League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season that concluded in November. Followed by two single-elimination tournaments, going on now, for the top teams.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
