Captain Shreve AJROTC Defeats on a Tie Breaker R-S Central MCJROTC

Sixth seed Captain Shreve AJROTC edged out third seed R-S Central MCJROTC last week in the National Air Rifle League Invitational Tournament. Both teams scored 1077 points. By rule, the tie was settled by highest number of "inner tens." Captain Shreve AJROTC won the tie 37 to 31.

Captain Shreve AJROTC improved their overall record to 8 - 0. Captain Shreve AJROTC was led by Caroline Brakeville who shot a 285. The remaining contributing members were Kyla Thrash, Imani Tart, Ash Mclain, and James Moore. Captain Shreve AJROTC is from Shreveport, LA, and is coached by Everett Craig.

Captain Shreve AJROTC advances to the semi-final round this week where they will take on seventh seed Christian County AFJROTC from Hopkinsvile, KY. This will be the first meeting between these two teams.

R-S Central MCJROTC finishes the season with a 5 - 3 record, which includes a third place finish in the MCJROTC Champions Division. R-S Central MCJROTC was led by Destiny Cureton who shot a 276. The remaining contributing members were Emily Williams, Christina Murphy, Hartvig Holmberg, and Cheyenne Downey. R-S Central MCJROTC is from Rutherfordton, NC, and is coached by Maj CJ Brown.

The post-season Invitational Tournament is reserved for some of the top teams in the National Air Rifle Sporter League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season that concluded in November. Followed by two single-elimination tournaments, going on now, for the top teams.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
