Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club Narrowly Defeats Lake Region Shooting Sports

Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club edged out Lake Region Shooting Sports 1514 to 1499 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club is in fourth place in their Division with a 2 - 2 record. Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club was led by Rose Reynolds who shot a 385. The remaining contributing members were Hope Kavulich, Kayley Pasko, and Haley Reynolds. Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club is from Stratford, CT, and is coached by CPT Alan Wilcoxson and Josie Burzynski-Smith.

Snapping a four game win streak Lake Region Shooting Sports dropped to 4 - 1 on the season. They are currently in third place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Lake Region Shooting Sports was led by Maria Rosa-Nieves who shot a 378. The remaining contributing members were Brandon Alexander, Christopher Morstad, and Hannah Vaagen. Lake Region Shooting Sports is from Devils Lake, ND, and is coached by Rick Jorgensen.

Next up Stratford PAL Jr. Rifle Club will compete against Minnesota Centershots from Anoka, MN. Minnesota Centershots currently has a 0 - 3 record. Lake Region Shooting Sports will compete against The Shooters Edge from Sarasota, FL. The Shooters Edge currently has a 5 - 0 record.

These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the conference. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
