North Brunswick AJROTC defeats Marion AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season North Brunswick AJROTC defeated Marion AJROTC 1062 to 1014 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their third win in a row, North Brunswick AJROTC is in first place in their Division with a 3 - 0 record. North Brunswick AJROTC was led by Ashley Buenrostro who shot a 274. The remaining contributing members were Justin Asbury, Jennifer Buenrostro, and Katherine Kelly. North Brunswick AJROTC is from Leland, NC, and is coached by George L. Williams.
Snapping a two game win streak Marion AJROTC dropped to 2 - 2 on the season. They are currently in third place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Marion AJROTC was led by LEVI HOFMANN who shot a 264. The remaining contributing members were TAYLOR SORAH, RHIANNA GARY, and HAILEY TEEGUARDEN. Marion AJROTC is from Marion, IN, and is coached by David Farlow.
Next up North Brunswick AJROTC will compete against West Broward AJROTC from Pembroke Pines, FL. West Broward AJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record. Marion AJROTC will compete against Stewarts Creek AJROTC from Smyrna, TN. Stewarts Creek AJROTC currently has a 1 - 2 record.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now, where teams compete for their Division's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all divisions advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
