Northside AJROTC defeats Ridge Community AJROTC

Shooting their highest score of the season Northside AJROTC defeated Ridge Community AJROTC 988 to 941 last week in the National Air Rifle League. With the win, Northside AJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 3 - 1 record. Northside AJROTC was led by Johnny Chiamsachang who shot a 256. The remaining contributing members were Christa Head, Martin Peralta, and Koi Hampton. Northside AJROTC is from Fort Smith, AR, and is coached by 1SG Steve Lowdermilk.

Snapping a two game win streak Ridge Community AJROTC dropped to 2 - 2 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Ridge Community AJROTC was led by Hector Maisonet who shot a 247. The remaining contributing members were Alondra Rodriguez, Rudy Locklear, and Brandon Rivera. Ridge Community AJROTC is from Davenport, FL, and is coached by John Durocher.

Next up Northside AJROTC will compete against Coral Glades AJROTC from Coral Springs, FL. Coral Glades AJROTC currently has a 0 - 4 record. Ridge Community AJROTC will compete against Ball AJROTC from Galveston, TX. Ball AJROTC currently has a 4 - 0 record.

These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Leaders Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now, where teams compete for their Division's title. Followed by the post-season, comprising of two single elimination tournaments. Only the top 16 teams across all divisions advance to the post-season, to compete for the league title.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
