Pierre Junior Shooters defeats Humboldt Sharpshooters
Pierre Junior Shooters advances to the league championship after defeating Humboldt Sharpshooters 1906 to 1883 last week in the National BB Gun League. Pierre Junior Shooters was led by Justin Merriman who shot a 390. The remaining contributing members were Jessica Hays, Rylie Stoeser, Jenna Kruger, and Alee Smith. Pierre Junior Shooters is from Pierre, SD, and is coached by Sean Kruger.
Pierre Junior Shooters advances to the League Championship game this week where they will take on Walton County 4-H. These two teams finished the regular season first and second in the prestigious Champions Division. In the second week of the the regular season they meet with Pierre Junior Shooters winning 1889 to 1879. Uniquely, these two teams are the last two Daisy National BB Gun Champions. Walton County 4-H won in 2015 and Pierre Junior Shooters won in 2016.
In their semi-final game Humboldt Sharpshooters was led by Eli Dissing who shot a 383. The remaining contributing members were Alisha McMartin, Julia Ivey, Mya Dissing, and Elizabeth Galpin. Humboldt Sharpshooters is from Hartford, SD, and is coached by Eric Dissing.
Humboldt Sharpshooters advanced to the post-season by qualifying with one of the two at-large bids. After the regular season they had the fourth highest seasonal average. They finished the regular season, competing in the prestigious Champions Division, with a 3 - 4 record.
These two teams are competing in the Post-Season Tournament of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season. Followed by a single-elimination tournament for the top four teams who are competing for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is the sum of each team's five athletes.
