Pierre Junior Shooters defeats Humboldt Sharpshooters
In a battle of the two South Dakota teams in the Champions Division, Pierre Junior Shooters defeated Humboldt Sharpshooters 1883 to 1859 last week in the National BB Gun League. Their sixth win in a row, Pierre Junior Shooters is in first place in their Division with a 6 - 0 record. Pierre Junior Shooters was led by Justin Merriman who shot a 389. The remaining contributing members were Austin Lesmann, Rylie Stoeser, Natalie Mohr, and Wyatt Rose. Pierre Junior Shooters is from Pierre, SD, and is coached by Sean Kruger and Jon Hays.
Humboldt Sharpshooters dropped to 2 - 4 on the season. They are currently in fifth place in their Division. Humboldt Sharpshooters was led by Julia Ivey who shot a 377. The remaining contributing members were Alisha McMartin, Cian McMillin, Skyler Plucker, and Mya Dissing. Humboldt Sharpshooters is from Hartford, SD, and is coached by Eric Dissing .
Next up Pierre Junior Shooters will compete against Forsyth County 4-H from Cumming, GA. Forsyth County 4-H currently has a 5 - 1 record. Humboldt Sharpshooters will compete against Appling Bulldogs from Baxley, GA. Appling Bulldogs currently has a 1 - 5 record.
These two teams are competing in the Champions Division of the Orion National BB Gun League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for BB Gun teams. The Champions Division is comprised of the top teams in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top four teams who will compete for the league championship.
BB Gun programs teach gun safety and competitive marksmanship skills to athletes 8 to 15 years of age. Each game in the league teams compete in what is known as a four-position match. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in four different shooting positions, prone, standing, sitting and kneeling at a distance of 5m. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best five athletes from each team.
