Atrisco Heritage Academy defeats A. C. Mosley MCJROTC
Atrisco Heritage Academy defeated A. C. Mosley MCJROTC 984 to 954 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fifth win in a row, Atrisco Heritage Academy is in second place in their Division with a 5 - 0 record. Atrisco Heritage Academy was led by Jacob Trujillo who shot a 251. The remaining contributing members were Isaiah Otero, Andrew Romero, and Alfred Ballejos. Atrisco Heritage Academy is from Albuquerque, NM, and is coached by GYSGT Tim Shaner.
A. C. Mosley MCJROTC dropped to 2 - 4 on the season. They are currently in sixth place in their Division. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC was led by ALYSSA CHESTERFIELD who shot a 244. The remaining contributing members were JAMES FULLERTON, HANNAH OSBORNE, and MARC TULACRO. A. C. Mosley MCJROTC is from Lynn Haven, FL, and is coached by MSgt Ken Hicks.
These two teams are competing in the Marine Corps JROTC Distinguished Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
