Granbury MCJROTC defeats Douglas MacArthur AJROTC
Granbury MCJROTC defeated Douglas MacArthur AJROTC 1487 to 1259 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their fourth win in a row, Granbury MCJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 5 - 1 record. Granbury MCJROTC was led by Kayla Hitshew who shot a 387. The remaining contributing members were Tamara Peters, Elizabeth Plecity, and Clarissa Layland. Granbury MCJROTC is from Granbury, TX, and is coached by LtCol Scott Casey.
Douglas MacArthur AJROTC dropped to 1 - 5 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Douglas MacArthur AJROTC was led by NATHAN ROBERTSON who shot a 332. The remaining contributing members were JOSHUA WONG, PAUL HOGGARD, and JAIDON HERNANDEZ. Douglas MacArthur AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Larry Garcia.
Next up Granbury MCJROTC will compete against Concordia Lutheran AJROTC from Ft. Wayne, IN. Concordia Lutheran AJROTC currently has a 2 - 4 record. Douglas MacArthur AJROTC will compete against Kaiserslautern AFJROTC from Kaiserslautern, Germany. Kaiserslautern AFJROTC currently has a 1 - 5 record.
These two teams are competing in the JROTC Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
