South Plantation AJROTC defeats Ball AJROTC
South Plantation AJROTC defeated Ball AJROTC 965 to 944 last week in the National Air Rifle League. South Plantation AJROTC finishes the season in second place in their Division with a 6 - 0 record. South Plantation AJROTC was led by Jason Batten who shot a 246. The remaining contributing members were Jean-Luc Quatremain, Pedro Ramirez, and Aryanna Chang. South Plantation AJROTC is from Plantation, FL, and is coached by 1SG Miguel A. Rodriguez.
Snapping a two game win streak Ball AJROTC dropped to 4 - 2 on the season. They finish the season in third place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Ball AJROTC was led by Dreylon Blankenship who shot a 242. The remaining contributing members were Christopher Bonnette, Maricela Salinas, and Fatima Estrada. Ball AJROTC is from Galveston, TX, and is coached by Mark Knight.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Leaders Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
