Maspenock Rod and Gun Club defeats Massachusetts Rifle Association
Shooting their highest score of the season Maspenock Rod and Gun Club defeated Massachusetts Rifle Association 1518 to 1383 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, Maspenock Rod and Gun Club is in third place in their Division with a 4 - 2 record. Maspenock Rod and Gun Club was led by ZUZU DEMETRIUS who shot a 385. The remaining contributing members were BRENDAN SEITZ, ALIYA BUTT, and RIO FERGUSON. Maspenock Rod and Gun Club is from Milford, MA, and is coached by Manuel Snyderman.
Massachusetts Rifle Association dropped to 1 - 5 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. Massachusetts Rifle Association was led by Samuel Gens who shot a 353. The remaining contributing members were Ryan Reardon, Nathaniel Pazos, and Andrew Duross. Massachusetts Rifle Association is from Woburn, MA, and is coached by Maureen Trickett.
Next up Maspenock Rod and Gun Club will compete against Georgia Competitive Shooters from Griffin, GA. Georgia Competitive Shooters currently has a 6 - 0 record. Massachusetts Rifle Association will compete against Robinson High School from Fairfax, VA. Robinson High School currently has a 2 - 4 record.
These two teams are competing in the Junior Rifle Club Precision Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Standing Air Rifle match. The match is almost identical to the air rifle events in the Olympic Games. Each athlete shoots 40 shots in the standing position, the most difficult position in rifle competitions. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 40 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
