C. T. Johnson AJROTC defeats R. L. Paschal AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season C. T. Johnson AJROTC defeated R. L. Paschal AJROTC 978 to 830 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, C. T. Johnson AJROTC is in fifth place in their Division with a 2 - 3 record. C. T. Johnson AJROTC was led by Patrick Von Dohlen who shot a 262. The remaining contributing members were Bradly Knight, Jake Slaughter, and Sean McDermott. C. T. Johnson AJROTC is from San Antonio, TX, and is coached by MAJ Tom Groggett.
R. L. Paschal AJROTC dropped to 0 - 5 on the season. They are currently in eighth place in their Division. R. L. Paschal AJROTC was led by Blake Lenington who shot a 225. The remaining contributing members were Dulce Flores, Jesus Jimenez, and Alexis Jauregui. R. L. Paschal AJROTC is from Fort Worth, TX, and is coached by Terry LeBoeuf.
Next up C. T. Johnson AJROTC will compete against Marcos de Niza AJROTC from Tempe, AZ. Marcos de Niza AJROTC currently has a 4 - 1 record. R. L. Paschal AJROTC will compete against Dickson County AJROTC from Dickson, TN. Dickson County AJROTC currently has a 0 - 5 record.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Elite Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
