Marion AJROTC defeats R. L. Paschal AJROTC
Shooting their highest score of the season Marion AJROTC defeated R. L. Paschal AJROTC 1008 to 815 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, Marion AJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 2 - 1 record. Marion AJROTC was led by TAYLOR SORAH who shot a 274. The remaining contributing members were KAYLEIGH SMITH, HAILEY TEEGUARDEN, and LEVI HOFMANN. Marion AJROTC is from Marion, IN, and is coached by David Farlow.
R. L. Paschal AJROTC dropped to 0 - 2 on the season. They are currently in seventh place in their Division. R. L. Paschal AJROTC was led by Blake Lenington who shot a 231. The remaining contributing members were Jesus Jimenez, Molly Carmen, and Alexis Jauregui. R. L. Paschal AJROTC is from Fort Worth, TX, and is coached by Terry LeBoeuf.
Next up Marion AJROTC will compete against C. T. Johnson AJROTC from San Antonio, TX. C. T. Johnson AJROTC currently has a 0 - 1 record. R. L. Paschal AJROTC will compete against Fort Campbell AJROTC from Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell AJROTC currently has a 1 - 1 record.
These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Elite Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.
In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
