Lebanon AJROTC defeats Cookeville AJROTC

Lebanon AJROTC defeated Cookeville AJROTC 1053 to 961 last week in the National Air Rifle League. Their second win in a row, Lebanon AJROTC is in third place in their Division with a 4 - 2 record. Lebanon AJROTC was led by Lara Lewis who shot a 269. The remaining contributing members were Tyler Still, Destry Brooks, and Alec Yanik. Lebanon AJROTC is from Lebanon, OR, and is coached by Mark Smith.

Cookeville AJROTC dropped to 1 - 5 on the season. They are currently in sixth place in their Division. Cookeville AJROTC was led by Andrew Loftis who shot a 255. These two teams are competing in the Army JROTC Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
