South Panola AFJROTC defeated Bob Jones AFJROTC 1056 to 797 last week in the National Air Rifle League. South Panola AFJROTC finishes the season in third place in their Division with a 4 - 2 record. South Panola AFJROTC was led by Matthew Moore who shot a 279. The remaining contributing members were Nikki Still, Shauntiya Johnson, and Nicholas Rudd. South Panola AFJROTC is from Batesville, MS, and is coached by Col Robert Mims.

By virtue of finishing in the top four in the Champions Division this season, South Panola AFJROTC will once again be squadded in the Champion's Division in the 2017 season.

Snapping a two game win streak Bob Jones AFJROTC dropped to 2 - 4 on the season. They finish the season in fifth place in their Division. Shooting their highest team score of the season Bob Jones AFJROTC was led by Hannalyn Wilks who shot a 226. The remaining contributing members were Nikolai Fadairo, Minh Nguyen, and Nickolas Valentin. Bob Jones AFJROTC is from Madison, AL, and is coached by CMSgt Ellis Clark.

These two teams are competing in the Air Force JROTC Champions Division of the Orion National Air Rifle League. Sponsored by the Orion Scoring System, the league is a national team league for high school teams and junior rifle clubs. The Champions Division is the most difficult division in the league. The league has two parts. An 8 week round-robin regular season going on now. Followed by a single-elimination tournament, for the top eight teams who will compete for the league championship.

In each game the teams compete in what is known as a Three-Position Air Rifle match. The match is modeled after Olympic Rifle competitions but adapted to high school age athletes. Each athlete will shoots 10 shots in three different shooting positions, prone, standing, and kneeling. Each shot is worth a maximum of 10 points. The sum of points scored in the 30 shots is the athlete's total. The team score is comprised of the best four athletes from each team.
